Word and structure knowledge
Collocations, prepositions, tenses, phrasal verbs and spelling. Twenty new words a week, always in a sentence — never as an isolated list — is enough for a top score.
Reading comprehension
IEO passages include notices, advertisements, timetables and messages, not just stories. Teach your child to read the questions first and scan for the answer, which halves the time spent per passage.
Spoken and written expression
This section tests appropriate responses in everyday situations — polite refusals, greetings, agreeing and disagreeing. Watching English content with subtitles genuinely helps here.
